Baleia Gin IWSC 2022 Winner
We are thrilled to announce that Baleia Gin has won bronze at the IWSC awards.
The Ocean Gin Company Lda, in partnership with producer Lima & Quental, is proud to announce that Baleia Gin, made in the Azores, has won the 2022 Bronze Award at the IWSC (International Wine and Spirits Competition). Baleia Gin has been recognised globally for taste and quality and is the first Azorean produced spirit to win a prestigious international award.
The IWSC, which celebrates the finest spirits each year, lauded the brand for its seaweed influence reflecting the ocean theme. The team are thrilled with the result, particularly as it comes less than a year into the release of the gin in 2021. “This award is not just for the team here at the Ocean Gin Company, it is also for every person in the Azores that backed our idea for a gin that showcases our amazing botanicals, ocean and the work to protect the ocean that surrounds us.”
“The mission of Baleia Gin has always been to show the world how great the Azores is on the international stage and at the same time support marine protection through donations to the Fundação Ocean Azores. We look forward to continuing this work and increasing the contributions we make to the Fundação as we expand into new markets” says Ali Bullock, creator of Baleia Gin.
“This is not the end of our journey to promote the best of the Azores. In fact, this is just the beginning. Watch as we go on the road with Baleia as well as launching “Senhor Raposa’s Secret Drinking Den”, the first speakeasy in the Azores,” Ali expands on the mission and drive of the Azores based brand. “After the dark times of COVID there is much to look forward to, for Baleia Gin and for the Azores. We are so proud and thankful to the community for all their support. Our bar, restaurant and hotel partners took a risk in supporting Baleia Gin. But we always knew this was about championing an Azorean product and this is the result of that faith.”
Baleia Gin is exclusively available at selected restaurants, bars and hotels in the Azores. Read more.
